Kristin Ostby is a literary agent at Salky Literary Management. She represents authors of middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction, as well as picture book author/illustrators. She also volunteers as Editorial Advisor for the Society of Illustrators’ Original Art annual exhibition of children’s book illustration and serves on the Association of American Literary Agents Illustration Committee.
After graduating from the University of Michigan, where she majored in English, worked at the undergraduate library, and was a staff reporter for The Michigan Daily, Kristin began her career in publishing on the editorial side of the desk at Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. She edited children’s book legend Tomie dePaola; New York Times bestselling authors like Stuart Gibbs (Spy School) and US soccer star Alex Morgan (The Kicks); as well as award-winning illustrator Daniel Miyares’s first four picture book as author/illustrator; and she was the US editor for Robin Stevens’ Wells & Wong Mystery series. A longtime mystery lover, she edited four Edgar Award nominees in her four years at S&S. She also edited bestselling I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark by Debbie Levy and Elizabeth Baddeley.
As a literary agent, Kristin loves guiding authors and illustrators toward their best work and advocating for them in service of building successful, sustainable artistic careers.
Kristin lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her fiancé, three daughters, and a very old puppy dog.
